A State terror policy – Special Update for 11th World Day against the Death Penalty
I. INTRODUCTION – The change of administration in the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI) and taking of office by a new president on 3 August 2013 has not brought any change as far as the death penalty is concerned. Between the 14 June presidential election and 1st October, more than 200 people have been reportedly executed, including possibly four people who may have been younger than 18 at the time of the commission of the alleged crimes.[1]

(September 18, 2013) – The International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran welcomes the release today of several prisoners of conscience in Iran, including lawyer and human rights defender Nasrin Sotoudeh. Iranian president Hassan Rouhani should continue to take concrete steps towards improving the urgent human rights situation in his country as he prepares to address the United Nations, the Campaign added.
(September 13, 2013) The newly appointed Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Ali Shamkhani, should immediately review the situation of the opposition leaders under house arrest and prepare for their release, the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran said today.
Paris, 3 September 2013. The International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) and the League for the Defence of Human Rights in Iran (LDDHI) call on the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) to release as soon as possible its report of investigation into the acts of violence perpetrated in Camp Ashraf on 1st September, which led to the death of possibly up to 52 camp residents. Both organizations also urge the Iraqi authorities to immediately launch an independent and impartial investigation as the government has pledged to do.
