Reyhaneh Jabbari, 26, was hanged on Saturday morning in Tehran’s Evin prison after spending five years on death row for the 2007 murder of a man she said had tried to rape her.
GENEVA (14 April 2014) – The United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, Ahmed Shaheed, today urged the Islamic Republic of Iran to halt immediately the execution of an Iranian woman, Reyhaneh Jabbari, reported to be scheduled for tomorrow.
11 April 2014 – Amnesty international: Reyhaneh Jabbari, aged 26, was arrested in 2007 for the murder of Morteza Abdolali Sarbandi, a former employee of Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence. Reyhaneh Jabbari confessed to the murder immediately after her arrest, though she did not have a lawyer present at the time she made her confession. She stated that the murder took place in self-defence.
