HRANA – Seyed Jamal Hosseini (Esfandiar Baharmas), editor and a senior member of Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRANA), was found dead in his office by Turkish authorities last night. Authorities believe that he had passed a few hours prior to their arrival.

Except for a phone call to their families the day after their detention, the two journalists have not been allowed any contact with the outside world.

July 8, 2014—The United States should reinstate sanctions on Iran’s state TV and radio broadcasting agency, the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), for the continuation of its widespread human rights violations, the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran said today. The US Treasury had issued a six-month waiver of IRIB sanctions in February 2014, which expires in August.
July 3, 2014 – According to the information received, Mr. Hadi Esmaeilzadeh was recently informed of his sentencing on May 31, 2014 by Branch 15 of the Islamic Revolution Court to a total of four years of imprisonment, including three years for the charge of “assembly and collusion with intent to commit anti-security crimes” based on membership of “an illegal organisation” – i.e. the DHRC – and one year for “spreading propaganda against the State.”
