{"id":207,"date":"2011-06-01T17:00:30","date_gmt":"2011-06-01T17:00:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.iransos.com\/en\/?p=207"},"modified":"2013-07-05T17:00:42","modified_gmt":"2013-07-05T17:00:42","slug":"daughter-of-deceased-dissident-dies-following-attack-during-fathers-burial","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.iransos.com\/en\/?p=207","title":{"rendered":"Daughter of Deceased Dissident Dies Following Attack During Father&#8217;s Burial"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/iransos.com\/en\/photo\/2011\/h\/hale-sahabi.jpg\" width=\"120\" height=\"145\" \/>1 June 2011) Interference by security and plainclothes agents in the funeral of prominent Iranian political activist Ezatollah Sahabi, including beatings of mourners, led to the death of Sahabi\u2019s daughter Haleh, who suffered a fatal heart attack at the event today.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><!--more-->\u201cThe shameful actions of government thugs in this incident reveal a deep contempt for traditions that belong to all Iranians, and they have resulted in a tragedy,\u201d saidHadi Ghaemi, spokesperson for the Campaign.<br \/>\nThe Campaign called upon the Iranian Judiciary to investigate the incident at Ezatollah Sahabi\u2019s funeral, and for Iran\u2019s highest political and religious authorities to forbid security forces from any physical or psychological assaults or any other form of interference in funeral observances, regardless of the political views of the deceased and their families.<br \/>\nA journalist present at the funeral procession of Ezatollah Sahabi, a prominent political activist, dissident, and a member of the\u00a0Freedom Movement, told the Campaign that there was a large group of plainclothes and security forces present at the ceremony who beat a number of mourners.<br \/>\nHaleh Sahabi was holding a photograph of her father in her hands when she was attacked by a group of plainclothes forces who tried to take the photograph away from her. \u00a0She then headed toward her father\u2019s coffin, but she was beaten and pulled away from the coffin, which was taken away by government forces.<br \/>\nAt this point, Haleh Sahabi\u2019s suffered a heart attack.\u00a0 She subsequently died after she was transferred to\u00a0 Lavasan clinic in Tehran.<br \/>\nHaleh Sahabi, 54, was herself a political activist and religious scholar.
