It added that they could appeal againstthe verdict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>The pair\nwere arrested in August when they took part in a protest outside parliament\ncalling for free elections. They were released on bail last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sholeh-Saadi,\n64, a longtime critic of the political establishment, was barred from running\nfor president in 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Iranholds regular presidential and parliamentary elections, but a council ofclerics vets candidates. The country\u2019s supreme leader,&nbsp;Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has the final say onall major policies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nHamshari daily reported that a court in the central city of Arak sentenced\nanother lawyer to 13 years in prison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It said\nMohammad Najafi was sentenced to 10 years for \u201cconveying information to a\nhostile country\u201d through interviews with foreign media, two years for insulting\nthe supreme leader and one year for publicity in support of opposition groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Najafi\nwas jailed in January when he voiced support for people detained that month\nduring anti-government protests.
