Independent labor unions are not allowed to function, strikers are often fired and risk arrest, and labor leaders are consistently prosecuted under catchall national security charges and sentenced to long prison terms.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">A source with contacts inside\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/click.icptrack.com\/icp\/relay.php?r=58654548&amp;msgid=951098&amp;act=1FNF&amp;c=333585&amp;destination=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.iranhumanrights.org%2F2017%2F11%2Frajaee-shahr-prison-inmates-fed-with-livestock-feed%2F\">Rajaee Shahr Prison<\/a>\u00a0in the city of Karaj where Shahabi is being held told CHRI on December 14 that Shahabi required medical attention before the stroke occurred.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u201cShahabi has been suffering from frequent headaches, nose bleeds, and difficulty moving his hands, feet, and neck,\u201d said the source who asked not to be identified for security reasons.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">A board member of the UWTSBC, Shahabi, 45, was arrested in June 2010 and sentenced to six years in prison after being convicted of \u201cpropaganda against the state\u201d and \u201cassembly and collusion against national security\u201d for peacefully advocating labor rights in Iran.
