Tehran, Iran, Sep. 25 – A young man was publicly hanged at a riverside in the Iranian town of Kashan, south of the capital, on Sunday evening, the country’s state-run news agency reported.

The 26-year-old man, who was identified as Esmaeil Hashemi, was lashed in public before the death sentence was carried out using a rope which was tied to the arm of a forklift.

Hashemi had been accused of rape.

The report said that State Security Forces had prevented all vehicles including motorcycles from entering the vicinity of the riverside, where Hashemi was hanged, for several hours prior to the sentence being carried out for fear of a public disturbance.
