                                  An Open Letter To:

The Honorable Parvez Musharraf, President of Pakistan

I would like to call your attention to the plight of Iranian refugees in your country, and ask your highness to take the necessary measures to address their horrible conditions.

As you may know, thousands of Iranian citizens have fled Iran as a result of continuous oppression and systematic denial of their human rights following the Islamic Revolution of 1979. Hundreds of these refugees, men and women with their children, have ended up in your country and have sought the refugee status from the United Nations.

The recent news regarding the perilous conditions that these people are under is alarming. A number of these refugees have been murdered or abducted, and fingers are pointing at the agents of the Islamic republic. Those abducted have reportedly been sent back to Iran. I call your attention specifically to the following known cases:

1. Reza Afshar, who sought refuge with the UNHCR in Pakistan, but later was apprehended and spent 6 years in jail. Following release, he was found murdered on December 30, 1999, near Islamabad.

2. Mohammad Taghi-ِDoust spent more than 6 years in various prisons in Pakistan. At the instigation of the agents of the Islamic Republic, and perhaps by their money, a few of the common prisoners attack him. Following that attack, Taghi-doust was transferred to a clinic and then to a mental institution. Later he was found murdered under mysterious circumstances.

3. Manucher Dehghan entered Pakistan with a French passport. At the bequest of the Iranian agents Doctor Dehghan was apprehended. According to valid reports he was found murdered using an air syringe in a Lahore prison in 2005.

4. The following are the names of some of the refugees who were arrested in Pakistan, after they had applied for refugee status from the U.N., but were then deported to Iran under pressure from Iranian agents:

     a. Hamid Davoudi was originally a refugee in Canada, who traveled to Iran to participate in his father's funeral. But was arrested at Tehran airport, released only after his family posted bond. Following his father's funeral, Mr. Davoudi fled the country and went to Pakistan and sought refuge at the offices of the United Nations. However, he was arrested by the Pakistani police, and spent 2 years in jail before being deported back to Iran, where his fate remains unknown.

      b. Asghar Fallah was a refugee in Afghanistan who fled the war in that               country and goes to Pakistan on foot. He was deported to Iran at the behest of the Iranian agents.

      c. Kourosh Kouhzad and Ghasem Mehrvarz were 2 refugees in Pakistan whoi were registered with the United Nations' office. They were abducted by the thugs of the Iranian regime and sent back to Iran. Their whereabouts are unknown.

      d. Shahab Asgari, a disgruntled employee of the Iranian security forces in Iran's Khorasan provice who fled to Pakistan following a dispute with his superiors. He was found dead under mysterious conditions in a hospital.

Currently a group of Iranian refugees are in Karachi and Quietteh jails whose lives are in danger. These prisoners are in poor health conditions and often have no money. Their basic human rights are neglected, since there is a risk that they too may end up either dead or deported back to Iran. I ask you and all human rights organization to interfere with this cycle of betrayal and violence before another tragedy takes place to ensure their safety and well being.

       Sincerely,

Hassan Massali
