22 March 2013 – The United Nations Human Rights Council renewed today the mandate of the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, Mr Ahmed Shaheed, with an unprecedented majority. Twenty-six countries voted for the renewal of the mandate, 17 countries abstained and only 2 countries voted against it. |

Friday, 22 March 2013 - 26 to 2 Vote Extends Mandate of UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Iran - UN Special Rapporteur Highlights “Culture of Impunity” in Iran (March 22, 2013) The International Campaign for Human Rights in Iranwelcomes the United Nations Human Rights Council’s 26 to 2 vote to extend the mandate of the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran for the third consecutive year. The Campaign also urged Iranian authorities to cooperate with the Special Rapporteur and allow him to enter the country.
